Lesson Policy

Scheduling

Scheduling lessons is best done via e-mail.

Accommodating your changing schedule is a top priority.

Same day/last minute changes are best communicated via text message.

Texts are preferred over phone calls since a lesson might be in progress.

Payment

Payment can be made at the beginning of the month for the projected number of
lessons that month or on a per lesson basis.

Preferred methods of payment are cash, check, Venmo, and PayPal .

If there is a balance at the end of the month, it will be applied to the following month or refunded.

Cancellations

Please give at least 24-hour notice when canceling lessons.

If canceling less than 24-hours before the scheduled lesson, you will be responsible for the amount of the lesson.

There are exceptions depending on your circumstances and I may offer a make-up lesson.

In general, let me know as soon as possible that a lesson will be missed so that I can make that
time available to another student and/or give us time to arrange a make-up lesson.

If I can’t attend a lesson, I will give you as much notice as possible and offer a make-up
lesson or credit the amount paid for the missed lesson.

Lesson Materials

It is expected that the student brings all books with assigned material
(method, etudes, solo, etc.) as well as a spiral bound tablet of manuscript paper.

It is also encouraged that the student brings band music, audition materials, and other music to explore.

Practicing

The most valuable part of musical success is dedicated practice. The instruction and
lesson material is meant to challenge and reinforce good habits while building students’ confidence in their abilities.

As a bare minimum, I recommend 2 hours of practice per week applied toward my assigned material. This time can be divided into as many sessions over as many days during the week.

I encourage students to keep track of their practice each week.

It is also helpful to have a designated practice time and place so that a routine is developed.

Even better, is to have an area where the music stand and instrument is always set up, making it easier to approach playing and preparing the lesson material and other music.
